Abstract

This paper is based on the idea that Astronomy and Science Fiction can be handled as a science-art capable of accessing the student's first culture, from which deeper concepts of elaborated culture can be worked through a rupture-continuity, according to the conventions of Georges Snyders. We worked with the book "Nightfall" by Isaac Asimov and Robert Silverberg in a reading club with adolescents from 12 to 14 years old in a municipal school in the city of São Paulo. Based mainly on spontaneous student actions, we point out to potentialities of Astronomy and Science Fiction that can be used to stimulate curiosity and imagination, from which more complex concepts can be worked out, such as the movements of celestial bodies, the question of life outside the Earth and dimension of the cosmos.
