The use and access to our space environment represent a true advance for humanity. Much of contemporary life is dependent on the technological apparatus sent and established in the orbit of the planet Earth, which benefits many areas of our activities, provides us with various services and dynamizes the economy, in addition to enabling the acquisition of knowledge for the evolution of science and of space exploration. However, this enormous potential, generated in the orbital space, may be threatened with destruction by the growing number of space debris. In this perspective, in analyzing the fragility and possible threats to this space environment, interdisciplinarity and the insertion of Astronomy in the classroom was established. Astronomy has a substantial potential to be associated with the disciplines of the Brazilian basic school curriculum, helping with the development of concepts and scientific thinking, and favoring various contributions to the teaching of Human Sciences, in particular, Geography. The methodological proposal adopted for the development of this study in the final years of elementary school was based on thematic workshops, which were carried out with the engagement of the students, in the perspective of a meaningful learning and that develops in the students the interest and the search for scientific knowledge.
