Abstract

Usually read as a laser game, manga have been tackling a wide range of subjects and even have educational intentions. The objective of this work is therefore to investigate the didactic potential of the manga guide "Universe" in the light of Paulo Freire's critical theory. It is of a basic nature, has a qualitative approach, has exploratory objectives, uses documentary analysis procedures, uses the deductive method in which the data is analyzed based on Paulo Freire's critical pedagogy. The potential of this tool makes it feasible to use in Brazilian formal education as a way of achieving critical scientific literacy that draws on the technical, political and epistemological dimensions of astronomical knowledge. As the levels of education go up, the manga will be articulated with the necessary content and depth, which can also be overcome by the educator's didactic approach to undergraduate courses.
