Abstract

This article is conducted as an excerpt of results obtained in a Master work, where we discuss some problems existing in the teaching and learning processes of scientific concepts and the possible contributions of astronomical themes in Science Education. With this in mind, we discussed an astronomical theme, the episode of the fall of the Serra de Magé meteorite, seeing in this episode an interesting tool to favor scientific learning. Thus, we organized a dialogue in a school in the state of Pernambuco, aiming at a more structured construction of scientific meanings. We used audio recording as a data collection instrument, analyzing them from the perspective of Discourse Analysis. Thus, we found that astronomical themes in Science Education can contribute to students' motivation, enthusiasm and curiosity, considering their attention and involvement in the face of the episode addressed. In addition, we also deduced the importance of contextualizing and valuing students' previous conceptions to promote the construction of scientific knowledge.
