Abstract

Astronomy became an object of knowledge in all stages of Basic Education, from the Brazilian National Common Curricular Base (BNCC, in Portuguese). In view of this, the present qualitative research aimed to analyze the Astronomy contents addressed by the teacher training courses in Natural Sciences, Physics and Pedagogy. The data were collected according to the date of publication of the curricula, the nature of the content present in the course syllabus, and finally, it was analyzed whether the contents of the teacher training courses were related to the subjects of knowledge presented in the BNCC. For the purpose of this research, mandatory disciplines from on-site courses offered by federal public universities were considered, disregarding optional disciplines. The results show that universities have difficulty keeping their curricula up to date in relation to Basic Education, and that the Astronomy contents present in the syllabus, for the most part, are in disciplines with several different subjects, and do not focus specifically on this theme, suggesting possibly a superficial approach. Finally, the Astronomy contents found in the syllabus of the degree courses reveal that they do not address all the objects of knowledge related to Astronomy provided for by the BNCC.
