Abstract

Recent studies regarding teaching Astronomy, considering the Brazilian context, have pointed out problems that make it impossible for students to learn. Among those, the area of teacher training stands out above all, and its real difficulties in developing the teaching of Astronomy for children. Given this scenario, this article seeks to present a model for the continuing education of pedagogical teachers, aimed at teaching Astronomy in Primary Education. To do so, it starts with a brief discussion about teacher training in Brazil. Then it discusses the theoretical-methodological assumptions that allowed the construction of the indicated model, which resulted from research carried out on teaching Astronomy to children, at an educational institution in São Paulo, Brazil. As approximations, the present work leads to a proposal for the development of basic training for teaching Astronomy aimed at teachers, as well as the possibility of teaching basic concepts to children in Elementary School.
